The hot hairstyles for 2012 channel sexy rocker attitude combined
with effortless style and gentle retro touch. The three sexiest
hairstyle trends include wet hair, edgy pixie cuts and updated bobs.
Browse the three styles below, which include some ideas on how to style
them, to find inspiration for your new spring haircut.
Wet Locks
A majority of designers, including Elie Saab, BCBG and Proenza
Schouler, sent models down the runway with wet hair this year. The key
to this look is to keep it subtle. Do not douse the hair or step out of
the shower and think you are good to go. Instead, go for a damp look on
the top of the head at the roots by applying a sculpting gel, and sweep
the hair away from the face. The temple area should also be damp and
pulled back. For extra edge, use Spice hairspray to keep the sides angled
upwards and to put volume into the crown of the head. The back and
bottom of the hair should be dry and loose. If you have short hair, go
for an all-over wet look, or tie up long hair in a loose bun and style
the top front roughly with plenty of texture. Or, pull the hair back in a
slick, wet ponytail for a svelte, smooth style. To go more vampy, part
the hair down the middle and smooth it down with just the top of the
head wet. For extra gloss, layer a smoothing serum on top. If you want
to avoid a drenched look, brush out the gel a little while after
applying.
Rocker Crop
Unlike the sweet, demure pixie cut of last year, 2012’s runway
boasted sharper angles, longer top layers and short fringe bangs on
pixie cuts. Make the sides short but keep the layers on top long so that
you can style them up and out in sharp pieces. Fringe bangs hit in the
mid-forehead, unlike the blunt cut bangs of last year that reached down
to the eyes. Part the hair to the side to hit another popular trend. For
celebrity inspiration, look to Ginnifer Goodwin and Halle Berry. The
best part of this hairstyle is that you can smooth it down and keep it
soft for a more romantic look, making it a very versatile choice.
Retro Bob with Loose Waves
With the 50’s inspiring the fashion trends this year, it is no wonder
that the bob has emerged as a favorite. Instead of the blunt cut bob
with sleek, flat sides, this year the bob has shaggy loose waves,
starting out long in front and ending short in the back. Cut the hair to
chin length in the front and angle it up to the nape of the neck in the
back. Keep it shaggy with plenty of layers in the back and boost the
volume on the crown of the head. Part the hair far to the side and use a
bobby pin to keep the hair out of the face, flat against the head. The
loose waves that look great with the retro bob also work very well with
long hair. Use Japanese Hair Wax to make movement. Designers like Calvin Klein and Givenchy chose to keep their
models looking casually sexy with lightly tousled hair and a hint of
volume on the runway this year.
